You can look at the traffic in places should you want to do the research but it is fairly impossible to say if the numbers are "real" traffic.  While I am very sorry about it, mall shopping has been dead in SL for a few years now. It will be difficult to revive it, but good luck if that is your plan.

Traffic in and of itself means nothing. Take for example a sim with one of those fishing spots or a find the coin spot, you get lots and lots of people coming and spending lots of time to make just a few lindens. You put a store there selling 500L dresses and none of those people are going to buy cause they haven't got that kind of money.

Or the ones with so many traffic bots there's hardly room for any actual customers there. ;)

There are several good reasons why a merchant would want an inworld store in addition to the Marketplace but there's not much point looking at the traffic when you choose a place for it. Either go fo the cheapest possible parcel on a Homestead sim or find a place along one of hte Linden Roads where there actually is a chance somebody will notice your store without specifically looking for it.

Has anyone compiled a list of the highest trafficked sims for potential store openings?

The highest trafficked sims are ones that hold popular events and it is impossible to get a store/booth there if you are not one of the most popular designers on the grid. The reason why there are soooo many events these days is because designers who could not get into popular events decided they will create their own, new popular event!

Good news is that online platforms like Facebook or Flickr have now become an equivalent of high traffic sims and you can create a store there by posting good photos that will attract many people. Best of all - its free! :D
