To be fair, Beaumont TX is much closer to Pensacola FL than it is to El Paso TX.  In fact leaving from Beaumont you would cross all of Florida and hit the Atlantic Ocean before traveling the same distance as going to El Paso.

From Texas to Florida: 400 miles
Crossing Texas: 850 miles

It's a big chunk of land but Google say you can walk across Texas in 278 hours.  Walking to Florida is only 156 hours.
