TwoCatsYelling Posted September 14, 2019 Share Posted September 14, 2019 (edited) So, I just seriously dove into SL very recently (I've dabbled with it a few times in the past) and am working at learning my way around the world, areas, events, avatar customization, etc. Still a couple things that have me mystified, but hopefully I'll get them sorted before too long. Intend to start creating content for SL as well. Deciding what kind of stuff I'd like to create first. In any case! For all my searching, I couldn't find a way to cobble together a Male avatar that I liked. Everything I saw seemed to be either ripped, super-glamourous GQ model, or Incredible Hulk uber-athlete. And I want a normal, regular, unspectacular looking avatar. I'm sure there's options like that out there. I just had no success finding any. Anyway, there's apparently a lot more options for Female avatars and it's infinitely easier to find stuff I like, so I went with that. Still the same idea... non-glamourous, "someone you could easily know in real life" kinda approach. As a music fan and musician myself, the Music note shirt get up was a no-brainer. Thanks to the generosity of many of SL's creators offering items for low cost, or even free, I've managed to collect and put something pretty good together. I have no doubt I'll be spending more as time goes on and I get more into SL though. So here they are.. Mostly there, but still have a few more things to sort out, like make-up appliers (one of the things that still mystifies me). Very good job on your avatar first of all! 🙂 It's amazing what kinds of outfits you can put together without having to spend too much. A majority of the fun in SL (for me at least!) comes from experimenting with different things to create the looks you like with an avatar that you enjoy traversing different sims with. Also, good news! There are ways to put together male avatars that don't rely on the "incredible hulk" look. 😉 For example, my own avi has a very androgynous appearance, which I'm not sure is what you're going for, but it was put together using Valentine Technologies Flat Chest replacer mod, plus the Maitreya Lara body and LeLutka Chloe Bento Head. Also I think the Belleza Jake male mesh body tends to be less "hulky" than others, but I'm not sure. 😅 Long story short, welcome to SL and don't be afraid to ask questions here in the forums. Depending on what kind of mesh head you have; Catwa for example, residents like @Skell Dagger could help you out with the make-up applier questions. I actually went ahead and asked about the make-up applier issue in another thread and had the answer provided... the body I got was a freebie I got in London. And that one has no customization options included (understandably). So, that explains that. Figuring out the base body vs. Mesh body and "Wear" vs "Add" took some wrapping my head around. But I sorted that out after a few horrific looking results (I'm sure many folks had such results when still new). Having your head turn into a giant box or suitcase or something until you learn about rez'ing, etc is also a bit odd. Growing pains in SL are entertaining at least heh. I'm looking into other options that I can buy and start "from scratch", so I'll continue looking into the Male options as well. Doesn't really matter if they're Male or Female to me, honestly. Pretty much comes down to having something well put together. Could get expensive trying to make up my mind heheh. Might just stick with Female going forward. Anyways, thanks again! I love this! It's rare (for me) to see wrinkles in SL; and generally speaking everything is usually so exaggerated. But this is subtle and as a result, classy.
