Absolutely. And these terms often become dogwhistles signalling others to pile on in a debate. Words and terms are powerful, and can also take on meanings they shouldn't, get mutated in ways that don't contribute to meaningful processing. A dear friend, who happens to be a language-ninja, often calls me out on lazy use of terms, and reminds me that it's perfectly easy to just find other ways of saying what we really mean.
