How to get event reminders?

As per the title, I want reminders for some events, when I browse events, i can tick the checkbox, but then the only way to get rid of the window is to click the X button. Then when i re-open that event, the tickbox is blank. I have joined the associated group, and have looked in the "notices" section for that group which is blank.

You have to give us details... are you checking a box in the viewer, on the web site, where? Be specific.
