Changing your password is definately a good start.  I guess the only other thing to consider is the security of the PC you are using to access SL.  Anybody else in the house who could access SL and do you let the viewer "Remember password"?  If so, you may want to disable that as well.   I guessing you are concerned that someone else logged into your account so those are the two steps I would recommend.

Don't give your password out to anyone...ever.  As far as the dispute goes, it is unfortunate, but the group administrator's have your name linked to the spam.  You are responsible for your account so you show as the spammer.

Make sure your firewall is up and running when you are inworld (actually, it should be running all of the time).

There have been several cases reported of this happening starting a month or so ago and they all spam with the same message checkout this thread http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Off-Topic/Account-hacked-by-a-bot/m-p/747637#M2396 and if it was the same message that you are being accused of spamming with, show it to the group owners and they should let you back in.

Absolutely change your password to stop it happening again.
