Can I change my name in Second Life?

Welcome to Second Life Forums/Answers

You can never change the name that you signed up with. That is your own unique identification. However, you CAN have a user name, and call yourself whatever you want.

You can also have up to five avatar accounts per household, so if you have an idea of a name you would like to be instead of the one you have, and if you feel you haven't invested enough to lose already, then you can simply go to the Second Life home page (log out if you are still logged in) and create a brand new avatar.

As Mari says, you can use the "Display Name" tab in your profile to create any name you wish. People will see that name in chat and over your head in-world, but your underlying username will always be JenniferChun85. Although you can select a new display name only once every seven days, you can reset it to your username at any time. Here's more to read...

I will add that if "Jennifer Chun" is your actual Real Life name, you may want to create another account with a different user name, and then cancel your JenniferChun85 account.  Most people in Second Life prefer not to reveal too much Real Life information.
