views Number of times viewed

I always found it useful to see how many times a topic or post has been viewed. It let you know the general interest level. It seems we have lost this.

 

Edit: I see it now . Number of times viewed is next to the topic, but you can't see the number of times individual posts have been viewed.

You couldn't see how many times an individual post had been viewed in the previous forum either. Such a number wouldn't mean anything because posts are delivered in pagefulls, so the forum would have to assume that every post on the page had been viewed, which often wouldn't be true. There was no usual way for the forum software to know which post on a page a person is interested in, so it couldn't show the "general interest level". I.e. you couldn't click on a specific post within a thread, except the link to show the post that was replied to.

but you do remember they had it next to the post, don't you? How accurate it was is another question.

It also showed the number of views (next to a post) decreasing the longer the thread became, and over time, which seemed to indicate a loss of interest?

I don't remember that, no. The only number of views I remember were on the threads pages, and were for threads, not for individual posts within a thread. I wouldn't bet my house on it being the only place where 'views' were shown, because it may be something that I never noticed, but I think it's correct.

I must say though, I always suspected that it has to be inaccurate, for the reasons you gave. But then again it did often show some later posts with a higher number of views than much earlier posts, which made me think there must be something in it.
