Hi. I am looking for recommendations on decent quality homes under 100 prims. 1 bedroom is fine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello, CandyRain123

One man's decent quality is another man's shoe box, so I would not be inclined to recommend the low prim house that I used to live in.

However, if I were to go shopping for a low prim house today, I would begin by looked at the Second Life Marketplace ...

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/products/search?search%5Bcategory_id%5D=34&search%5Bkeywords%5D=low+prim+house&search%5Bmaturity%5D=Adult&search%5Bpage%5D=1&search%5Bper_page%5D=12

If you see something you like, at a price you like, then some of the vendors may have a place in world where you can rezz and view your potential new home to get a better feel of it.

Good luck in your search.

I quite liked this...

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/LCNCHARLY-RANCH/6580718

It's listed as 151 LI, but thats furnished, and includes bits you can easily chop out like the static mesh horses in toe coral at the back, a small 2 room appartment over a large openplan barn area, that can easily be repurposed as a living space, and a nice sundeck at the back...

With mesh, there is plenty to chose from...and decent stuff, if you aren't tied to a low budget.

I do like to put some house stuff and buildings on my favorites list on the marketplace, whenever I see something pretty, even if I don't have land at the moment, so here are some suggestions for stores:

Example 1. Scarlet Creative

-> https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/6345?lang=en-US

(A personal favorite for only 71 prims: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Scarlet-Creative-Craft-Cabin/7983369)

Example 2. Cheeky Pea (has a few homes/skyboxes)

-> https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/35871?lang=en-US

(60 prims: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/CP-Petit-Kanina-Cabin/6880584)

Example 3. Trompe Loeil

-> https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/2150

(56 prims: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Trompe-Loeil-Fisher-Point-Cottage-mesh/9546415)

100 land impact isn't that difficult a target any more. What other things are you looking for? For instance, do you need a small footprint house because you have a small lot or do you have a larger lot that you plan on putting a lot of other content on?

Oh yes, 100 land impact is very high for a single bedroom house. Depending on how much elaborate details you want, 1-30 LI is what you should expect today.

When it comes to technical quality, there are three things you need to check:

  • Lag. Some house makers specify render weight in the MP listings but most don't. If they don't, right-click on the house and select "Edit". Then in the edit window click on "More info". Normally the render weight should be below 10,000 for a single bedroom house but 15,000 is ok and 20,000 is probably acceptable.
  • Physics. Can you walk on the floor or does your avatar hover above it or sink into it? Can you walk into or even through the walls anywhere? Is it possible to rez on the floor?
  • LoD. Not to important if it's to be placed inside a skybox but critical if it's on the ground. Cam away from the house as far as you can before the house is outside your draw distance and look at it. Some details will be missing at that distance but if the outer walls and/or the roof have broken down, it's not a good house and you should not buy it. (Ideally you should do this test with  graphics settings similar to default mid graphics in the SL viewer, that is LoD Factor 1.25 and draw distance 128. Any well made house will pass the test at those settings. But if the house is jsut for you own house, it really only matters if it works with the graphics settings you use.)

When it comes to design quality, it's up to you. What do you like?

As for specific recommendations, well I'm not allowed to recommend my own houses here of course and I hope you understand that I'm not really going to mention any of my competitors' either. ;)
