For instance, do you need a small footprint house because you have a small lot or do you have a larger lot that you plan on putting a lot of other content on? Oh yes, 100 land impact is very high for a single bedroom house. Depending on how much elaborate details you want, 1-30 LI is what you should expect today. When it comes to technical quality, there are three things you need to check: Lag. Some house makers specify render weight in the MP listings but most don't. If they don't, right-click on the house and select "Edit". Then in the edit window click on "More info". Normally the render weight should be below 10,000 for a single bedroom house but 15,000 is ok and 20,000 is probably acceptable. Physics. Can you walk on the floor or does your avatar hover above it or sink into it? Can you walk into or even through the walls anywhere? Is it possible to rez on the floor? LoD. Not to important if it's to be placed inside a skybox but critical if it's on the ground. Cam away from the house as far as you can before the house is outside your draw distance and look at it. Some details will be missing at that distance but if the outer walls and/or the roof have broken down, it's not a good house and you should not buy it. (Ideally you should do this test with graphics settings similar to default mid graphics in the SL viewer, that is LoD Factor 1.25 and draw distance 128. Any well made house will pass the test at those settings. But if the house is jsut for you own house, it really only matters if it works with the graphics settings you use.) When it comes to design quality, it's up to you. What do you like?
