Yep, you've guessed it. This is an interview request.

I'm writing for a new web magazine called Press Play. It focuses on indie media although occasinally big name things are allowed too. We are currently working through our first articles and I choose to write on something near and dear to my heart: Second Life.

The idea I pitched is that SL can be used to learn and/or develop skills that can be applicable in real life such as photo editing, learning a new language, 3D modelling and the such.

Just a warning, I'm working from the angle that Second Life is a game which I know is hotly contested. If you'd like to read the complete pitch I've put it in a Google Doc here I've omitted the names. That way you can see kind of where I'm coming from and where I'm going.

Here's the interview request. I am looking for people who have used secondlife to gain a skill.

For instance:

  • People who have learned how to use Blender (or one of the many 3d modelling programs out there) to create mesh clothing
  • People who have learned another language through secondlife
  • People who have learned photo editing or photoshop etc by doing something that required these skills on Second Life

If there's anything that you feel counts that I may have missed let me know these are the most common examples that I know are possible off the top of my head.

To get in contact with me you can reply here or catch me in-world TempestTemptress

Thanks in advance.

Scripting and building never really appealled to me, so I didn't concentrate my efforts to improve my ability to do these. I did have a little tinker with building, that was fun, but was nothing more than a little tinker around.

Being involved in groups with niche interests helped me to make myself aware of the ever so changing culture we live in.

Good luck with this project, please post your link once it's completed. I'll be looking forward to reading it! :-)
