slanpet
Hello! First time here, but since I wasn't able to find any answer I thought about making a thread and see if someone could help me. I own a Security Orb from Thomas Conover and it's great and all by far, I just have one little problem right now. Basically when I add someone to the access list and then use the teleport to allow that person to come meet me, it seems that that person will be teleported outside the security orbit. But then I think there might be a kind of conflict with the Land Access option that's available for everybody once owning a land. If the name of that person is both in the orb and the land access list, then there's no problem at all.So... In the end, I know that I could simply add the name of the person I want to pay me a visit in both orb and land access list, but then, I don't think it's how it should work. I'm doing something wrong? Is it really necessary for me to act like that and adding the name in both lists? Or there's a way to just add a single person to that Orb's access list without adding them as well on the Land Access list? I'm using Firestorm and is up to date and the land where I live is rented. Dunno if this may help, but I don't think it does, since that's the situation of most of the people out on SL so far.
Alwin Alcott
your orb and the land accesslist are two total different things, those don't read eachothers settings. So if your land is restricted access, your friend is on the list of the orb, will still keep him out because the land doesn't allow him. Other way too... when he is allowed by the land but not on the accesslist of the orb, he will be booted by the orb. Use one, or both, but combination is only possible when both are setted right. slanpet
So... What I have to do to use just the Orb is to simple clean the Access List from the Land? Or there's some kind of option that I should check to make so the Orb can do his job? Like, right now the access on my land is only by "Group Access". I can keep it checked or I should remove the check in that case?
Alwin Alcott
the orb does exactly the same as the access setting on the land... keeping unwanted visitors out. If you allow group on your land, and your orb has no groupsafe setting, or the members aren't in the whitelist of the orb, it's useless to have groupaccess on the land, the orb will kick everybody out. if you want to use the orb, set the parcel to public access ( uncheck group access) or.. if you want to use the land setting, set the land to group only and dont use the orb. Having that check means that only people who are in the group the land is set to can be on the land regardless of what the security orb does. If you want the orb to be the ultimate controller that land access setting is fighting it.
slanpet
Okay! Done, I did some tests and it works out well as I expected, all thanks to you Alwin Alcott and Theresa Tennyson! Your help was great and so quick also, can't thank you two enough. ^^
Pussycat Catnap
banlines (the land access list) break SL vehicles and toss their drivers randomly - if moving fast enough into different sims. This means they really mess up people who are not trying to invade you - just passed by an couldn't turn fast enough. If you travel mainland for a while you will see vehicles of all kinds stuck in midair on parcerl borders - this is the result of banlines, with the vehicle owner tossed into a different sim, and never knowing where their vehicle was left... - Some of those vehicles have been sitting there since 2006... or maybe earlier... I don't know your set-up... but here is what I do to avoid 'drama' and to avoid people getting tossed. I limit my security orb to the insides of some solid walls. Like the tower I have at ground on my land, or a solid box I put around my sky build. People either bounce off that box harmlessly (vehicles don't get hurt by collisions with solid objects, just by banlines). Or they hit a locked door for the ground tower, and can only get inside by teleporting or camming and sitting - and if they do those things, they deserve to get zapped... But then I leave no banlines on the land, and I put out some 'nice to look at from a distance' garden things... people can pass by, take a screenshot of that stuff... and neither I nor they ever get bothered by each other. My Security Orbs zap maybe 1-2 people per year... But my visitor script records a lot more than that - most of whom I never see.
