How to release my Linden Home

Click the World Menu and select Place Profile > About Land. On the About Land window that opens, click Abandon Land. Once that is done, you can downgrade to Basic.

I would add to Nyll`s spot-on answer that if you have prims there, take them back to your inventory before you abandon, as some people have lost their stuff by expecting it to be returned after.

If you already abandoned and lost your stuff in the last 4 hours....Ooops
