The current Singularity viewer is based on an outdated version of the standard LL viewer.  It is apparently being updated, but they have very few developers, so it's not clear when they will have a new version.  However, if the Singularity viewer doesn't work at all on your machine, then there's a good chance that you machine is too underpowered to handle any SL viewer.  Singularity is, after all, a stripped down viewer that many people use when nothing else does.
