Linking is one of the basic operations of building objects in SL.  You can read about it here >>> https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Build-Tools/ta-p/700039#Section_.5 , but the best way to learn is to take a free building class in world.  You'll find good ones at Builders Brewery, at Caledon Oxbridge University, and at NCI, for example. 

There's a lot more to building than just gluing the parts together, though.  If you plan to create objects for sale, you will need to understand about SL's permissions system and about how to prepare objects for sale.  Again, you can get a start by reading articles in the Knowledge Base, but I suggest also looking for classes in world:
