Question

What is the required Mbps data needed for operating item vehicles like-cars,planes & boats, for the SL Grid?

The answer will provide a clue to (preset graphics-settings), to drive or fly scripted vehicles that has "different" prim allotments with updating viewers to (preset graphics), for (low to high) speed quality. Plus: While using a (remote NDIS sharing device-adapter) and a (Intel-Dual Band wireless WIFI adapter), with "2" different (Mbps) speeds modem.

If I switch to (landline-router) data supply, I'll need to know why first---smiles*.

Required? You can certainly operate any of those vehicals with even a crummy connection. With so many things to take into consideration, you're best off just thinking "The Faster The Better". Also if you're concerned about speed probably get off WiFi.

You're always going to run into performance problems operating vehicals on the "Grid", especially if you are talking about crossing from one sim into another.

That's an impossible question to answer, partly because there is no "requirement" and partly because there's no way to correlate your Internet connection's bandwidth with the behavior of a vehicle in world.

Your viewer sets a Maximum Bandwidth (in Preferences) that is generally in the range of 700 or 800 Kb/sec.  You can increase that setting if you wish, but your viewer will rarely need much more bandwidth than that. Most people have way more bandwidth than they need for SL, so there's no harm in increasing it.  Linden Lab recommends not setting Max Bandwidth higher than about 75% of your available bandwidth, however, so that you are sure to leave enough for voice and streaming media.  Mine is set at 800 Kb/sec and has been for years.  In any case, the actual movement of your vehicle is all done by LSL scripts that run in the Linden Lab SL servers, not by your viewer.  Your viewer's sole function is to maintain a steady data stream that tells the servers what you want to do with the vehicle.

As for what sort of router to use, Linden Lab neither recommends nor supports wifi.  They recommend either a direct cable connection or a DSL connection to the Internet.
