It's usually not too hard to locate something in your inventory.

If you bought it or used it recently, check the Recent tab of the inventory window.  You can set this for different values of "recent".

If it's wearable and you have worn it and saved the look as an Outfit, look in the Outfits folder.

If you can remember any part of the item's name, enter that in the inventory search box at the top of the window.

If you bought it on the Marketplace, the item is delivered to the 'Received Items" section of the inventory.  If you didn't move it (you should, but many people put it off) it will still be there.  Received Items can appear either as a regular folder, or a separate section at the bottom of the inventory window, depending on your settings.

If you bought it at a store, it's delivered to one of two places:  Either it is in the Objects folder as a boxed item, or it's a separate folder with its own name. 

You can choose how folders and objects are sorted and displayed.  I like to set things up to show the "system folders", the ones that are automatically included, first, and then everything else alphabetically.  But you can also sort by Most Recent.

On occasion, I have dropped something, either an item or a whole folder, into the wrong folder in inventory.  It can then be hard to find again!  The Search function is the best tool in this case.
