Severe Lag, Disconnections, and Slow Rezing

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping someone could help me with this. I've recently rejoined SL, and I've been experencing severe lag, slow rezing, and I almost always DC (screen goes black and then crashes) when I'm on a busy sim. My compuer (iMac purchased in 2012) is not old, and I'm wondering if its my in-game settings. Here are my specs:

macOS Sierra

Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 512 MB

Any thoughts?

NVIDIA + Sierra + SL = [expletive deleted]. Welcome to the club of those who bought their Macs at the wrong time. :matte-motes-angry:

Plus lots of people are having lots of problems since the beginning of the month, like mesh not rezzing. I suspect that may have something to do with increased traffic for Christmas shopping and lots of frequent TPing by lots of avs for Advent calendars. Others tell me that can't be it of course. Whatever is going on there, SL is having extra problems of late.

Gavin Hird explains the NVIDIA + Sierra + SL problem in the thread Pamela linked to. He suggested the Open Sim version of his Kokua viewer (link in that thread) and it is much more stable for me. Cool Viewer is also working for me at the moment. I keep graphics minimised in general, and unticked various things in the graphics section of Preferences. When I need more graphics capability for some reason, I take that specific up and don't TP until I've lowered it again

I also pay attention to when I've been using graphics intense software like GIMP or Blender or watching a lot of telly online and reboot before I go into SL.

The situation has gone from being a nightmare "do I buy a new computer (really don't need one cause my 4 year old Mac is still going strong aside from SL), do I leave SL, arrgggh" to a nuisance, at least until I get my butt in gear with creating again. Bouncing between GIMP, Blender and SL is a real pain given the GPU issues. And we do need to turn shadows back on now and again to see how it's going to look to other people.

Try Open Sim Kokua or Cool Viewer and if mesh isn't rezzing, TP out and back in again cause SL is a bit borked at the moment anyway.

Pamela and Gitsy, thank you so much! This is very helpful, albeit slightly disappointing.

And  I was very careful to get a Nvidia, because AMD had so many problems. Now I am stuck on Yosemite forever.

dont want to open new thread to share my new expirience.  Hope ill get some explanations

I have pretty high end Desktop PC, and for now i have relative slow internet connection.

My specs are

i5 2500k 4.5 ghz

16gb DDR3 1600 CL9

40gb SSD sata 2 for SL chache only

250gb SSD for boot disk, Windows 10 Pro

GTX 970 G1  with 373.06 drivers  (new drivers are **bleep**ty, downgrades performance because Nvidia want users upgarade on new gen cards)

Seasonic S620 PSU

Corsair H100 watercooling

for now 3.1 download /0.35 upload hardwired ADSL

So is pretty high end PC, should have no trouble running SL on max specs.

Funny thing is, my native screen resolution is full HD 1080 and running full ultra SL on candy make in high crowded mesh places GPU usage of 30% more less.

New Nvidia feature called DSR or dinamic scale resolution, allow us to render higher resolutions than native display one. Basicly is type of AA

funny thing.. when i play on 1080p, open statistics bar.  I have huge packet losses, sometimes more than 10%.  Now when playing in 1440p resolution (2560x1440), rendering avatars and world loading is much faster, and packet loss go back to 0% -1%

I tested couple times, and what's bugging me, i cant see how that 2 can be related.  I tested LL IP packet loss via CMD command, and is perfectly normal, in Ping test showing me that too. 0%

I wonder, how is possible that i have constant 60 FPS on higher resolution, but have problems on my native one.

Is there a connection with my graphic card workload 100%  and my bandwith, so that cancle packet losses?

i set my bandwith slider at 900 kbps

big mistery

Wait I. Remember Whirly saying something about downloading drivers from the web,mI think Nvidia, and those would work with El Capitan etc.

You mean downloading drivers for NvIdia and it'll fix the issue for Sierra?

LL cant fix it. I did a search and pasted the link in your other thread, so you could read what has already been said on the issue.
