TheFanciestBard
Hello, I have ran into an issue with some avatar items I bought that are mesh. I'm kinda new to actually using mesh items and the pants and boots clip. I can't seem to actually alter the shapes of mesh items I buy using the edit menu so I figured why not use an alpha layer? I've made the alpha itself, got it all set up as it should be, but I don't know if this is just a lack of knowledge on alphas or if what I'm trying to do is impossible. Effectively I'm trying to apply an alpha layer which will render the part of the pants that's clipping into the boots invisible but adding the alpha doesn't do anything. Is there a way to layer the alpha onto or over the mesh pants so that it makes it partially invisible? If not, is there any ways to edit them I'm not seeing? I'm a bit of a nitpicker so I really want this all to look nice and uniform! Thank you for reading.
VanillaSunsets
As you discovered you cannot edit a rigged mesh item. They will be the same size and position no matter what you do. Clipping is a common problem as a rigged mesh item is designed to fit the creators "fitting avatar" in their program of choice. Most use some sort of standard size and some design for a specific mesh avatar brand. Making it a bit hard to find clothing that fits 100%. There is no longer a "one size fits all". I believe most of us can agree that this is the biggest and most annoying problem that occurred when mesh clothing came out. If you bought these items with modify permissions you are able to change the texture, but.... this will not help you if you do not a have some way to make a correct texture layout. For that you will need the UV maps or the original texture and this is probably not the case. If I understand you correctly you are trying to put an alpha on the pants and/or boots? Normally this is not the way to go. The alpha's to prevent clipping is done by putting the alpha on your body, not the worn items. How this is done depends on what body you are using. If you are using the default system body you can use the avatar UV maps to figure out where you would like the alpha to be. Resulting in that part to become invisible. If you use a bought mesh avatar you probably have a HUD that helps you hide specific parts of that body. I hope this helps? You can find some avatar UV maps here in case you use the system body: http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/SL-Tuts/SLPages/AVUVTemplates.html
TheFanciestBard
Yeah I'm pretty familiar with the "Mesh platforms aren't interchangeable" so I'm just using a kemono body with items designed for that. On their own everything fits and I have a full body alpha already in place to not have to deal with the default bodies clipping or showing. The main issue is that on their own the boots and pants look just fine. They even sit well together except towards the bottom. Because of the shape of the pants they stick out from the heel to the ankle which is the clipping issue that's occurring. I figure in a sense this is one of the risks of dealing with mesh clothing but if I could alter the shape of the bottom or make it invisible to "tuck it in" to the boot then it would all be great. Is there any way to do this? I presume I could possibly edit the texture of the item to make that part textureless rather than using an alpha for the same effect? Amethyst Jetaime
I have a few pairs of mesh pants (none for Kemona) that come in in several lengths so I can wear flats, heels, and boots in various lengths from ankle to thigh high with them without any clipping. You may want to contact the creator and explain your issue. Perhaps would be willing to make you a pair that will work with your boots. That service may or may not be availble if they don't do custom work and it may also not be free. However maybe they would in the future offer pants in various lengths like mine. I'm sure you aren't the only one with this issue.
