I actually have the same question and I am wondering what the problem is too. 

I tried the one suggestion to delete Winmm.dll file in the Second Life folder. Still getting the same error message for the Second Life Viewer 2. The Imprudence viewer works fine though. 

Any other suggestion? I think this happened to me with an earlier viewer sometime last year, but I don't remember what the solution for it was.
