When you submit a Limit Buy order, you are offering to buy L$ at a specified price.  If you are really lucky, there will be one person willing to sell a large amount at the price you are offering, so the entire order will be filled at once.  More often, especially if you have placed a large order, it will be filled a little at a time as people who are looking to sell a few dollars worth at your price come along.  It might only take a few hours, or it could take days if you are unlucky.

If you really want to buy L$ quickly, submit a Market Buy order so you get L$ at whatever the current market price is.  You may cancel your current order on your dashboard at secondlife.com >>> Lindex >>> Manage >>> Order History.  The funds will be transferred to the USD balance in your account, where you may use them for a new order immediately.
