Question

Hi Everyone! My husband and I are a little bit new to SL, and we are interested in starting a photography business. We want to focus on maternity and couples/ families.

Does anyone have any good advice on how to start? What all do you need to be a good photographer on SL?!

Thank you in advance for all your answers/ suggestions and help!!!

IM me in world if you'd like to chit chat about the business!

Thanks! :)

It's also a good idea to learn everything you can about lighting and using your camera controls.  Having a good eye for photography in RL is a good prerequisite, but SL adds levels of complexity in those two areas, so you'll need to do your homework and then play around a lot to get comfortable with how photography works here.  After all, you're competing with a lot of amateurs who have those tools.

It probably goes without saying and applies to any business anywhere but:

  1. Check the market
  2. Check the competition

People do roleplay maternity and families in SL and there are an awful lot of couples, so you could be ok there.  On the other hand there are probably lots of photography studios with which to compete.

The hardest thing in SL is advertising and promotion.  It may be worth employing someone experienced with that.

You will need creativity and photo skills to be succesful, photo equipment , maybe a peice of land to put your photostudio there, make sure you are ready for all the competition out there and your ready to go . I also recommend checking Torleys guide on this. Good luck :)
