I have gone through all the troubleshooting steps I could find anywhere in the knowledge base or elsewhere online.  when I reinstalled sl and the viewer, the problem went away for a day or so but came back.  I can do  everything with the mouse and alter my avy through menus and buttons on my viewer (firestorm is where it started but it continues even whenI use v3)  byt every time I click on my avi, I get crashed.  any more ideas?

Also, I  do know my machine is literally one step away from not being able to ru SL at all, but I have not had anything outside the normal problems running SL until now.  All the problems I have had were easily resolved and have not re-occured.  I cannot find anything anywhere that resembles this problem nor how to deal with it.  Many thanks, in advance!

PS I have just updated to v4.1 and the problem is still there.

PS2  I have narrowed down to a firestorm problem and will follow up over there.  One of the five things I just tried cleared the problem from all but firestorm.  So I'll just use singularuty until fs can help me solve it.  I thank you for your swift reply..

Anything we are likely to suggest is almost certainly in the troubleshooting steps that you say you have already tried.  Without more specific information about your computer and Internet connection and about what happens when you "get crashed", there's not much else we can do.  However, if your computer really is "literally one step away from not being able to ru SL at all", you have probably nailed the answer yourself.  Linden Lab and the third-party providers keep upgrading their viewers all the time and your old computer just keeps getting older and more tired.  You're watching two trains pulling away from each other on parallel tracks.  I suspect that you won't get really good performance again until you replace that machine.  In the meantime, you may get temporary relief by opting for a stripped down viewer like Singularity.
