I've seen quite a few regions in SL like that over the years.  It's a great idea.  Go for it.

I assume you are looking for specific information on how to set up a special login path for your people.

The Lab has gateways. The Firestorm Team has one. You can explore how it works. The idea is they (FS Team) have a web site that deleivers their users to a signup page that gets them registed and then delievers them to a FS Region. I think it also adds them to a special group. Only memebers of that group have access to the region... or at least access can be restricted to those members.

I suggest you contact Jessica Lyon or Ed Merryman to get information on their experience with the gateways.

Setting up such a gateway requires coordination and approval with/by the Lab.
