Most of my Inventory folders are now empty after I cleared my caches. how do I find the contents

When you clear cache, that's what happens.  Your local cache is the working copy of your inventory, and you have emptied it.  You need to give your viewer time and a quiet space to download and reconstruct a fresh copy.  So, when you are going to clear cache like that, do it in a quiet region like Pooley or Smith.  Clear your cache manually -- not with the clear cache button in Preferences -- and then wait while the viewer reconstructs it.  Do not teleport or try to rez anything.  Go make a cup of coffee until the system stops saying "Fetching ....".
