You can always shut down your computer, regardless of what programs are running. 

If the Mac has a power button on the keyboard, like all modern MacBook laptops do, this is how you forcibly reboot it:
  1. Hold down the Power button on the keyboard until the MacBook shuts down completely, this may take 5 seconds or so.
  2. Wait a few seconds then hit the Power button again to boot the Mac.

All systems can be powered down by simply holding the power button a few seconds, wait about a minute and reboot the system. Then use the applicable uninstall program for Second Life. Each system has it's own method for uninstalls be it Mac or Windows and the Second Life viewer itself has an uninstall runtime.
