You do not need a bank account.  PayPal will let you verify your account with a credit card. You may not use a prepaid card of any kind in SL, but PayPal may accept them for verification.  You may only use one of the approved credit card types (not debit cards) as a payment method in SL:

• Visa
• American Express
• MasterCard
• Delta Online (non-U.S. Residents only)
• JCB
• Diners Club
• Discover (U.S. Residents only)
• Visa Electron (non-U.S. Residents only)

To add to Rolig's answer, you can't use a credit card (even the ones that are accepted by Linden Lab) to WITHDRAW money from your account.  You can only use a verified PayPal or Skrill account for that, because credit cards are only designed to work in the other direction...you can pay for things with them, but you can't take deposits.
