The last time I did participated in an auction the money was not taken out of my account when I placed the bid, but only after winning the bid, and even then it was an hour or so after the bid had closed. Perhaps I'm not understanding your issue correctly. Check your $L Transaction History (under Account on the left side bar on your account's web page) and check to see exactly when and to whom the $L's were paid.
