in general you can say those people wear more than your machine can handle.

It's to prevent your graphic card gets overheated.

You can override it by setting the rendering cost slider higher.

If you do it to high you will multiply the lag and possibly ask more from your machine than it can handle, with possible damage if you really overheat it.
