I work (and play!) on an adult sim.. and I was wondering if anyone knew of any specific rules relating to Anime Avs.

I have seen a few recently, and to me they look distinctly child like.. One member of the group mentioned to me that they read Linden Labs had made a ruling that anime Avs are classed as children, and obviously we do not wish for any of that on an adult sim.

Has anyone seen any guidelines on this??.  Yes I know for now we can just eject and ban anyone we feel looks underage. but was really just trying to get some proper guidelines.  Today i was called a "cartoon nazi" for daring to question one of them.. !!!

any advice is appreciated. thank you.

There is no guideline like this.

LL guideline doesn't even strictly forbid child avatars on adult sims, they only forbid them to engage in adult activities and advice that they shouldn't be near objects and locations that clearly indicate a sexual use.

There is no word about anime avatars in the whole ToS. Cartoon or anime avatars are not automatically considered children. But its worth mentioning that the ToS does not include any specification of what is a child avatar and what isn't. LL seems to judge by the rule of thumb, that if something looks like a child it is a child avatar ("if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is a duck").

So the rules regarding anime avatars, as well as any argument about them, come exclusivly from other users. Some people feel uncomfortable around anime avatars, some any avatars look very young others pass as adult. Its a matter of personal judgement.

SL-Kids are allowed in Adult areas. They are just not allowed to engage/be in the close vicinity of sex.

But for anime characters the Lab have not made any such ruling if they are kids, honestly, they haven't even ruled what an SL kid is, it's sort of taken as granted. The lab are notorious for staying right out of hard rulings on many things including this.

It's really up to the sim owner to decide, and many do it by height. In the twink/femboy community for example 169cm is the cut off. But again that is arbitary and based on scale, most adults in that community are 178-190cm in height not 12' tall.

Other people using clothing, manner of speech and how they act.

Other people can't use height or how they act, they take the plastic look as being childish. They just blanket ban altogether.

My own personal thoughts, as an SL kid, Anime characters are sometimes used as a loophole around the sexual ageplay restrictions. But that's just my thoughts.

here's the official guidelines from LL

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Clarification_of_policy_disallowing_ageplay

If some one gives you a hard time just send them the link and point out this part of it, people are less likely to argue when shown the policy.  If they still don't get it ban, block , mute.

"In some cases there may be an element of subjectivity as to whether an avatar (or other image) appears to be a minor. Objective factors which will be used to decide, including whether an avatar has childlike facial features, is child-sized, has clothing or accessories generally associated with children, and whether, based on the circumstances, an avatar is speaking or acting like a child ("My Mommy says...").

If you are in doubt as to whether an activity may be interpreted as ageplay, we request you err on the side of caution and desist. Please note that some countries' laws may impose penalties for graphics, drawings, or anime that resemble child pornography, even where no children have been involved."

The word anime is found in the last sentence which is dealing with RL laws.

Not to imply that all anime avatars are child like but many do look younger,  you really have to look at each avatar sperately.  I've seen very short very adult looking avatars and tall child like avatars.
