If you are a basic member the easiest way is to quit logging in.  The only difference between  a deleted account and a basic account that you walk away from is that it costs 10 dollars to restore a deleted account before you can use it again.

Go into your SL dashboard then go to manage accounts. then go to the bottom it will say delete account.
