my newly installed firestorm does not show me online or offline. i did nothing to cause this.

Log out and log into another region. That sometimes fixes the problem.

If you mean the online/offline indicator in your own Firestorm legacy profile, this is normal.

Your own legacy profile does not display your online/offline status.  You should know when you are online 

If you are looking at another avatars profile, if they have hidden their online status from you, there will be no online status indicator displaying at all.
