Check your dashboard.  In the Linden Exchange section on the left, click Manage and then $L Order History.  See if you have any open orders.

If you do, then what happened is that you placed a "Limit Buy (Best Rate)" order, and the rate you offered has not (yet) been accepted by any sellers.  If the rate you offered was unrealistic then that order might never be filled.  You can continue to wait, or you can cancel the order and then make another buy.  If you want your $L right away, don't use the Limit Buy option, but the "Market Buy" option.
