Hi, I was just wondering if there is a thread about freebies, or how to get them. Only real freebies, not joining a group for Lindens, or what to type on the the  MarketPlace to find them. I can't seem to find anything about it, maybe this is a good idea for new people who want to wait before they spend money on SL? Or never want to spend anyway :-) Please let me hear what you think.

Free Dove gets their stuff from reputable designers in SL. They also have monthly hunts from different designers. I've seen Sn@tch participate, for instance.

Check skin shops. Though the groups often cost, they frequently have free weekends so watch Skin Addiction group. Some have low cost to join, like Lumae is 1L, and they have free group gifts.

Thought not really recommended, Twisted Hunt starts soon. It's the hardest hunt on the grid, so you are forewarned. The gifts are almost always worth it.

I know what you mean, but I will never send a newbie there.... if they hang on long enough I will show them how Marketplace works, I will tell them that having a mesh-ava is much better, but way harder to get a nice free one. I like my ava, so I help them however I can,

Did you notice how hard it is for new people to Rez stuff, and when that finally works, how to wear it, and  they still are wearing that stupid hair, and it's not even hair. I think it's an eyebrow or whatever.

"No, you rez, but first we have to go to a sandbox"  It's really haqrd for new people, since the games they play they get used are easy, but SL isn't a game.... They think it is, where are the points.... NOOOOOO it's not a game, it's more like a 3d chat.... but you can play games.... "Cool, and where do i get these?".... No I don't play them, I just.... "GAMES!!!! WHERE!!!" and I give up.

So it would be awesome to learn people how to look better, dress better.... because the things you get to read when you land, no one reads, because they are in a hurry like all games they play....

Hope you understand, English not my language

NCI often has classes on "How to Find Freebies" and last time I checked there was a notecard giving "where to find freebies" information near the NCI Info Desk at Kuula.

I also publish a (free) short list of popular freebie places which is available at my Tourist Information Center in Cecropia (look for the Porky Gorky building near the shore) and is included in (free) "My Favorite Freebies" collection on the Marketplace.

There are also many inworld groups and there are internet blogs that also give alerts to new freebies.

After you've collected a number of freebies I suggest taking one of the  "Managing Your Inventory" classes offered at various locations.

What are you implying?

Who are you working for?

Who gave you my number?!

WHY ARE YOU QUESTIONING ME!!!!

/me looks at her empty coffee cup.

Yes it is very hard for new people to get into SL because of the enormously steep learning curve.

but... why do you have a problem with telling new people where to find games if that's what they want to do? and instead you give up?

There are several blogs and inworld groups. Those are probably better arrangements than a thread because it all changes frequently. The free things groups I'm aware of have rules banning self promotion or group gifts which require a fee to join. Does that make sense? I can't make the grammar work. :matte-motes-smile: Let's try again. There are free to join groups inworld which do what you want re genuine freebies.

I started a new avi - wanted to see what the introductory experience is like these days.  Anyway, I ended up at a Freebie place (from the orientation stuff) and at least half of the female clothing was the same stuff that I got as freebies when I started in 2007.
