The short version:  wear a different shape.

 

The long version: therreare 4 things that all avatars MUST have before they can be rendered.  Shape, skin, eyes and hair.  If anyone of these gets corrupted for what ever reason, the program does not know how to draw the avatar.  Of these four the most common one to have problems is the shape.  If that does not fix your problem, change each of the other 3 until you res.

Rhonda is correct. Hers is a step-by-step process that will help you find the specific item that is a problem.

The name for the problem you are seeing is BAKE FAIL. A lot has been written about bake fail.

While in an empty region, replace your appearance with one of the default Library appearances or use a Test Avatar. Library avatars can be found in your inventory in the Library folder. The Library folder can be hidden by a setting in Preferences.

Be sure you select replace current outfit when changing to a new outfit.

The test avatars are in the Viewer's top menu: Develop (Ctrl-Alt-Q to reveal/hide)->Avatar->Character Tests->Test Male/Test Female. Pick one.

If the COF (Current Outfit Folder) is the problem for some reason this outfit change should fix it.

These are the best choices for troubleshooting Bake Fail. If they do not help, there is a good chance your connection to SL is the problem. Having a good Internet connection does not mean you have a good connection to the SL servers.
