That depends on how you are buying them.  The LindeX is an exchange, not a market.  You are buying L$ from other residents who are trying to sell them.  If you want to buy L$ at whatever the current prevailing price is, the transaction should be almost instantaneous.  If you are offering to buy L$ at much below what most other people are selling for, though, you could wait quite a while -- perhaps forever.  If you are lucky, some desperate resident will come along who is so eager to sell L$ at any price that he agrees to sell for your low bid.  Until then, you wait.  Or you cancel your Limit Buy order and replace it with a standard order to buy at the current market price.

Your $Linden Order should be fulfilled almost immediately aside from a few hiccups.

Linden Purchase Limit : If you are a new user, you will have a limit on the amount of L$ you can purchase until your account matures. See:Billing&Trading Limits

Market Buy : Most Transactions purchasing $Linden uses the Instant Buy, meaning the system will make the FASTEST match for your purchase. Alternately, some choose to use Market Buy, in which you specify an exchange rate and in turn YOU MUST WAIT for the parameters to be met before your $Linden will be purchased. See: Buying L$

Alternately, if you are experiencing a DELAY or no payment at all, you might want to double-check your payment information. You must have valid credit information provided to purchase L$, no pre-paid cards or anything like that.

Hope that helps you in the right direction Chrissy, take care and have fun!

Saul and Rolig gave good answers.

A way to understand the Lindex is to understand it is a currancy exhange. If you have traveled internationally, you have problably had to exchange you homeland currancy of the local currancy. The Lindex works the same way.

If you are interested in undresrtanding more about the Lindex and possibly getting more L$ for your money, see: http://blog.nalates.net/tag/lindex/
