Has anyone tried to make a new account recently?

I pick an avatar, pick a name, fill out the contact info and toggle the checkbox to accept the terms.  The Click Activate and it hangs with a spinning icon doing nothing.  That's as far as we get.

 

So far I have tried Edge, IE11, Firefox and Chrome on Win 10, the same minus Edge on Win 7 and Safari on IOS 9.

I thought it might just be down for a bit but this has been happening since Tuesday now.  Does anyone know if it is a recent problem or is there some specific version of Java, a secret handshake or something else I may be missing?

It probably has to do with this https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Status-Grid/Unscheduled-Billing-Maintenance/ba-p/3053321 since you have to choose premium or basic and it sets up your account with that billing info. Wait for the all clear and try again

Nope. Just created this now. Works fine.

Perhaps LL has restricted your IP due to hitting a limit of alt accounts / bad behavior.

You can file a support ticket for that even if you aren't a premium member.

Ah HA!

I finally figured it out.  The sign up process did not like my password. I had to use a simple password to get activated but coiuld change it through my dashboard after that.
