no, a grandfathered sim IS a full prim sim, the only difference is the pricing, you don't need to own any other.

Only when you want to buy a homestead sim or open space sim you need to own a full sim next to it.

 

grandfathered has nothing to do with the amount of prims, it's only meaning a higher purchase and lower monthly fee

Also a  homestead can be grandfathered.
