Most items are set up so that it's impossible for you to sell copies to other people - the system will either allow you to transfer them or copy them, but not both.

There are full-permission items you can buy that are intended for people to modify and sell, but they typically come with a license that has requirements the original maker wants you to follow when you re-sell them.

There are also older, free things that are full-permission; however, most people familiar with Second Life will know where to get them for free in the first place so selling them won't be a real business opportunity.

If you have the "Permission" to modify it then you can make changes and sell as you wish. Many sellers will have specific licenses requiring SOME modification/disabling permissions to be made before re-selling, so your main problem would be selling a full-permission item on marketplace after purchasing it and not making any changes. An example of this policy from one of my favorite sellers....

"Decor Depot full perm mesh 3D models are to be used as a component of your own creation, not to be sold out of the box as is. You must make the item original in some way, including making it unique in appearance., and change the perms as explained in our User License "
