how do i change the group on a land?

If you own both groups, or have the group ability to buy and sell land for the group, you don't need to sell it to yourself first.  Here is the procedure:  (This assumes the land is DEEDED to Group A, and you want it to be deeded to Group B)

1. Wear the group tag for Group A.  
2. Open the Group Info box, and click the Land and $ tab.  Remove your tier donation.  You will get a warning message that the group does not have enough tier to pay for the land.  You can ignore this, we're going to fix things in a minute.
3. Open World/Parcel Details, or right click the ground and choose About Land
4. Set the land to sell to a specific person, yourself.  Use your user name, NOT your Display Name.  Set the price at $L0.
5. Now CHANGE YOUR ACTIVE GROUP to Group B.  Be sure the correct group tag is active, you don't want to buy land for the wrong group!
6. In About Land, click the Buy for Group, and check the Owner Makes Contribution with Deed box.
7. Click the confirmation box to buy the land.
8. Check to be sure the land now shows Group B as the owner.
9. Check the Land and $ box to make sure there is now enough tier donated (the amount is shown in square meters and should be equal to or greater than the parcel size.)

That's it!  Your land should now be owned by the new group.

You cannot own 1/2 of any land.  I'm assuming you mean the alt is contributing half of the needed tier to the group that owns the land.

If that is correct, then before doing the above steps, have your alt remove the tier donation from Group A - i.e. set it to 0 (ignore the warning for now).  Then have the alt add the tier donation to Group B.  Then proceed with the above steps.  In the end, Group B will own the land and the group will have both your tier donation and the alt's tier donation.
