Why can't I use my credit card

A couple of possibilities:

2.  Are you trying to use a prepaid credit card or a gift card or a debit card?  Very few of those are still accepted for use in SL now, although they may have been accepted in the past.  Linden Lab changed its credit processor almost a year ago and has been disallowing anything except real credit cards, PayPal or Skrill accounts as payment methods.
