why are some avatars around me all one colour?

For the last two nights some avatars around me have been all one colour whilst others appear normally, why is this? Never seen this in over six years in SL

ETA  Among the things it explains is how to cause the avatars to render normally if your gpu is up to the strain.

I have the same problem on two different computers. SL graphics have gone haywire.

No, what's gone "haywire" is the tendency for designers to create clothing that has WAY too much detail for your graphics card to render safely, and the tendency for many SL residents to buy it. The limit switch that Linden Lab built into its recent viewer releases is their attempt to bring some sanity back to the market, and to reduce stress on people's graphics cards. Read the link that Innula included in her reply. As she says, you may be able to make the jelly doll colors go away on your own viewer, if your graphics card can handle the strain.
