That's great!  Unlike Learning Island, you can come back to Social Island as many times as you like, so you don't have to feel that it's necessary to try all the tasks at once.  The whole idea is to wander around, visit all parts of the region and try everything. Each task introduces a new idea or lets you practice a new skill.   When you do each one, you get a little more practice L$.  The shop on Social Island is there to give you a no-risk way to learn how to buy things (with that practice L$) and handle your inventory, and a safe place to practice dressing and changing your appearance.

Second Life is not a structured world with rules about what you have to do next. You discover what's out there and you chose what to do, on your own time ....  starting on Social Island.

Hi Tecnonerd

If you mean, how to get away from the Social Island, you can open the search function on your screen. Click on the tab with the name 'places', and type a word for something you want to do or see.

music - dance - hair (if you want to visit a hair shop) etc. etc. Then you click on a random place in the list, and now you will be able to teleport to there, if you hit the teleport-button on the picture to your right.

You will start to meet people in various places and clubs, and have fun :)

SL is not going to be telling you what to do. SL is an exellent example of a free world. The Learning and Social islands are schools teaching basic skills. Using teleport is like learning to use a transit system. You learn all about he transit system but not where to go. Destinations are your choice.

So, what you need is a list of destinations and ways to find your way back to places you like.

The Destination Guide is the list. There is an in-viewer PLACES icon and web version of the Guide. To tell you how to use the in-viewer guide we need to know which viewer you are using. Since this is your first post we can assume it is the default Linden Viewer. Later you will need to click HELP-ABOUT... and copy--paste that info in with your questions.

Pick a destination and start clicking... If you are on the web, you will find the viewer launching and you'll log into the destination. If the viewer is already open, you are asked if you want to teleport.

If you use the in-viewer guilde (Places) you'll be asked if you are ready to teleport on selection of a destination.

To be able to return to places we  use LANDMARKS and Teleport History. You create landmarks by click the top menu's WORLD and then Landmark. This adds a destination marker to your Landmarks folder  in inventory. Later you can click that Landmark (LM) to return to the place you were standing when you made it.

Teleport History is in the PLACES Panel. The history is viewer oriented and each viewer has its own list of past places you have visited. The lists can be different as a place is only in that viewer's list if you used that viewer to go there.

You can add a place to your Favorites so that the LM shows in the viewer menus. Where is dependent on your viewer but, generally in or near the top menu.

You can also use SEARCH. Click the in-viewer or web search and search for places. The viewer and web search allow you to narrow your search to Places. Look to the right side of the search input field. You may type somethng like horse ranch. You will get a list of places related to your keywords.

You don't actually have to complete ANY of the tasks!  Social Island, and the HUD you get there, are there to help you learn your way around Second Life.  But you can leave at any time.  Second Life isn't like a game that has tasks, rules, and levels.  It's very free-form, like life itself.  You do what YOU want to do, not what some game designer thinks you should do.

Use Search or Destinations to find places you'd like to visit and teleport there.  Or you can go to the Portal Plaza on Social Island (the place with all those things that look sort of like Stargates).  Go through any door to a random destination in that door's general category.

Before you go, though...use the World menu and select Landmark this Place to make a landmark for Social Island.  Then you can use that to teleport back there any time you like.
