You don't, at least not unless you are very skilled or very lucky. Terrain textures apply to the entire region. If you have planned well ahead so that the half you want to texture is in a different elevation band than anything on the other half of the region, you might be able to change that single texture without messing up the rest of the region. I can only see that happening if your half is all very high or very low. Otherwise, your only option is to apply a mesh cap over your entire half and texture that mesh as if it were the real landscape.
