What usually happens is that you have a communication failure at some point when your computer was updating the viewer's inventory cache, so your cache becomes corrupted. That's most likely to happen during login, but it might happen at any time if you have a wonky connection. The easy solution is to erase the cache completely and force the viewer to download a fresh copy of inventory from the asset servers. ETA: Incidentally, the most important sentence in those instructions, IMO, is the one that says, "While inventory repopulates, do not teleport anywhere, and do not attempt to access anything in your inventory. ":. Just be patient.
