if i own one of the free mainland parcels, can i change to another piece of land?

If you mean you have a Linden Home, you can abandon the home and simply apply again to get another one.  Stand in the home and go to World/Parcel Details, and click the Abandon button.

If you mean that you own another parcel of land on the Mainland, you can sell or abandon that as well, then simply buy another parcel that better meets your needs.

there are no free mainland Linden Homes, you only can get one when you'r a premium member.
