Other avatars are one solid color instead of actually avatars

When I'm playing SL some of the avatars are one solid color, like blue or purple, instead of looking like normal avatars when I play.

Your Avatar Complexity slider is set too low.  This can be adjusted in Preferences, in the Graphics tab.

If you have a graphics card that is marginal for Second Life, you may want to keep the Avatar Complexity setting low and put up with some people looking like jelly babies, as a tradeoff for better viewer performance.
