If you cannot see your avatar you are probably wearing a full body alpha.  this likely if you were using a llibrary mesh starter avatar.  Go to your 'worn' tab in your inventory and scroll through to see everything attached to/worn by your avatar.  

Alphas have a grey checked shirt icon.
