If you are using the latest LL viewer release, this is a known bug on that viewer, see https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-11899
There is a fix for this bug in the QuickGraphics-RC viewer, which you can download here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/4.0.5.315117
