My Friends list does not show when my friends are online. It only shows when I IM them,

My Friends list does not show when my friends are online.    It only shows when I IM them, then the name is highlighted.

I've checked everything in Preferences and all looks ok.   What's happening?

there's nothing happening, it just happens a lot...

try loggin on another region, it might help.
