when wearing a prim attachment you created, and add it, you still have to tell where exactly it has to go.

Always add it to the most suitable point of the avatar.

You have to use the edit tool for this. As soon it is on the desired spot the object will remember this and when you wear it again it will go to that position.

For exmaple, attach a bracelet to your left underarm, you position it at your wrist. When you detach it, and than choose "add" in your inventory, it will go to the right place.

Keep in mind your body might move a bit different than you would like the object to do, rings might look out of place a bit sometimes when your hands are moving, but it will be ok again when the hands are in basic postition as you first attached the ring.

Every new basic prim object you make has to be put on the right spot this way.

Alwin is correct.

You have, if I recall, something like 31 attachment points, both on your avatar body and nine HUD attachment points on your screen.  You can attach multiple things to a single attachment point by using the ADD command.  Using WEAR will detach anything currently on that point and replace it with the new object.

Even when attached to an appropriate point and positioned correctly, attachments can still seem to move about, as the position of your avatar body alters in relation to the attachment point.  The one I have the most problems with is the chest point...no matter what I do, I can't seem to keep a pin or a brooch from moving about as my pose changes!

The head, eyes, ears, and nose points are pretty stable though...hair and glasses and such will pretty much stay in position through thick and thin.

Hands, and attachments like rings and fingernails, can be a problem.  Hand positions are determined not by animating skeletal bones, but by morphs, and attachments pay no attention to morphs.  This is why your fingernails can appear to "pop off" when your hand assumes a "holding a glass" pose, for example.  Rings, being close to the base of the fingers, are not affected as much.

In the case of a ring, here's how to do it.

  • Stand on a pose stand
  • Find the ring in your inventory, right click it, and select Attach To >> Right Hand (or Left Hand)
  • The ring will probably be way out of position.  Right click it, select Edit.
  • Use the positioning arrows and rotation rings of the Edit window to nudge it into position on your finger
  • When done, just stand up from the pose stand
  • The next time you wear the ring, it will remember both its attachment point and its last position.  No further adjustment should be needed.
  • If you decide to wear the ring on the other hand, you'll have to go through the above process again.  If the ring is copyable, it's better to make a copy, and have one for the right hand and one for the left hand.
